Justice Department Enters Agreement with School District to Ensure Playgrounds are Accessible to Children with Disabilities

The Justice Department entered into a settlement agreement with the Iowa City Community School District under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to resolve a complaint alleging that School District playgrounds are not accessible to children who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Under the three-year agreement, the School District will ensure that its playgrounds are accessible in compliance with Title II of the ADA and the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design by remedying violations related to play components; play area amenities, such as benches and picnic tables; accessible routes to play areas; and routes connecting play components.
