2023 3-Hour Fall Webinar | Overview and Application of PROWAG - The Accessibility Guidelines for Public Right of Way Pedestrian Facilities

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

The CASI Fall seminar will be on an Overview and Application of PROWAG - The Accessibility Guidelines for Public Right of Way Pedestrian Facilities, presented by Natalie Sparrow, MPH, ADAC, CASp.  Accessible pedestrian facilities in the public right of way create a vital network that connects and transforms individual parcels into vibrant neighborhoods, towns, and cities. The U.S. Access Board’s recent finalization of PROWAG (Accessibility Guidelines for Public Right of Way Pedestrian Facilities) clarify the scoping and technical standards for these facilities. This webinar will provide information on PROWAG’s rulemaking status, an overview of the updated scoping and technical requirements, and an analysis of their application to CASp practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

Participants will be able to:

1. understand PROWAG’s current rulemaking status and its timeline for adoption as an enforceable standard;
2. understand the updated scoping and technical requirements for accessible pedestrian facilities in the public right of way;
3. identify and analyze potential conflicts and challenges in the application of PROWAG to CASp practice.

This Course is currently intended to meet the requirements for 3 hours of Continuing Education Credits for DSA CASp Certification Renewal, International Code Council (ICC), and LU Continuing Education Credits for the American Institute of Architect (AIA).

SPEAKERS: 

Natalie Sparrow, MPH, ADAC, CASp

Natalie Sparrow, MPH, ADAC, CASp is ADA Coordinator for the Pedestrian Rights of Way with the City of Los Angeles. She serves as the City’s primary administrator on disability access for the City’s public pedestrian facilities. Her work includes oversight of technical compliance, standards and policy development, and management of the fulfillment of the City’s $1.4-billion Willits Settlement Agreement. Natalie is on the Board of Directors for the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI) and a Steering Committee Chair of the California Network of ADA Coordinators. She is a frequent speaker at national and local conferences and provides consulting services to Title II and Title III agencies. Natalie is a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) and has received a Master’s degree in Public Health from Tulane University and ADA Coordinator Certification from the ADA National Network.
