Biography:

I established Access Compliance Consulting in August of 2021 to use my twenty-five-plus years of experience to provide training, consulting, and publications focusing on accessibility in the built environment. I am a sole proprietor and a woman-owned business.

From January 2011 to July 2021, I was a Senior Architect at the Division of the State Architect Headquarters Office in Sacramento. While at DSA, I participated in the rulemaking for the 2013 California Building Code. During that rulemaking cycle, the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design became the model code for Chapter 11B. That required a complete rewrite and reformatting of Chapter 11B. I also focused on the federal housing-related regulations to bring Chapter 11B in alignment with those regulations. During that process, I authored the Guide to Public Housing, Regulated by Chapter 11B of the California Building Code and the code change that completed the separation between Chapters 11A and 11B. I wrote the first CASp open book exam and developed and delivered training for the DSA Academy.

I worked for E.M. Associates – AIA, Inc. in the private sector from January 1991 to October 2006. My project management duties required working as a team member and independently on projects from preliminary design to construction documents through contract administration. That required knowledge of local government agency procedures (i.e., developing relationships with building and planning departments to obtain building permits and variances). Successful completion of projects necessitated developing working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and code officials. The projects I was involved in were medical office buildings, commercial office buildings, Sacramento State University Classroom buildings, and two high-rise commercial office buildings.

My memberships include the International Code Council, California Building Officials, American Institute of Architects, and Accessibility Professionals Association.
