Carleton University, with support from the Province of Ontario and the City of Ottawa, has finalized a program of high-profile speakers for its unique International Summit on Accessibility.
The Honourable David C. Onley, lieutenant governor of Ontario and honorary patron of the summit, as well as Rick Hansen, C.C., O.B.C., CEO, Rick Hansen Foundation, will be among more than 60 speakers gathered to provide valuable learning opportunities for all those who want to review best practices in accessibility and make changes.
Participants are expected from several sectors, including service organizations, governments, post-secondary institutions, hospitals, businesses and others.
Other Summit speakers include:
- Rafik Goubran, Carleton dean of engineering and design;
- Peter Blanck, disability law and policy researcher at Syracuse University ;
- Susan Scott-Parker, founder and chief executive of the Business Disability Forum;
- Randy Lewis, Fortune 50 executive and visionary in disability employment advocacy;
- David Capozzi, executive director of the U.S. Access Board;
- David Berman, accessible communications expert;
- Inmaculada Placencia Porrero; deputy head of the Unit for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities within the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice;
- Jutta Treviranus, Faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto;
- David Goldbloom, chair of the Canadian Mental Health Commission.
With a theme of intention to action, the speakers will focus on innovation, technology and accessible communities. Four special results-focused workshops will also feature leaders in the fields of mental health, employment, technology and education. Also included will be an Avenue of Possibilities – an exhibit featuring some of the best accessibility ideas from around the world.
