Time: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM  PST

Temporary public outdoor dining areas constructed with relaxed permitting processes were a lifeline to businesses during the pandemic and they continue to be a desirable dining option. Formalizing these programs and ensuring compliance with disabled access standards has been a challenge for many jurisdictions.

This code discussion group will facilitate discussion on the following: What are the applicable standards for public dining facilities located on public right of way sidewalks and streets?  Does any particular department within a covered governmental agency have a legal obligation to review for compliance? How should an agency permit, review, and enforce the applicable standards for existing and new applications given that an outdoor dining area program usually spans multiple departments and business-friendly processes are a priority?

Come ready to share your insights and contribute to the discussion.

For the upcoming CASI discussion group, we will be doing just that - discussing the code! This will NOT be a lecture so come prepared with your code book, your thinking cap, and a willingness to engage. This session we are going to be talking about some of the proposed code changes for toilet facilities.

Format: You will be divided into a breakout group randomly. Each breakout group will have 25 minutes to discuss a scenario, guided by a CASI facilitator. Then, we will reconvene as a whole and a representative from each breakout group will have up to 5 minutes to present the scenario, any discussions/debates, and the group interpretation.

One (1) continuing education credit is offered for a maximum of one-hour live attendance for DSA CASp certification or CAB credits, to be self-reported.

The Discussion Groups are available FREE to CASI members only. Registration is required.

Webinar information to join the discussion group will be sent out the day prior to the scheduled session date.  The discussion groups will be recorded and archived in the member dashboard for those who cannot attend the live session.
