The requirements for separating circulation paths from vehicular traffic can be puzzling when applied to the countless design alternatives on a project-by-project basis.

This course will review the requirements of California Building Code, Chapter 11B, Section 11B-250 Circulation Paths to provide code users with an understanding of what is required at vehicle and pedestrian interface areas such as parking facilities. Attendees will understand how circulation path requirements enhance safety for pedestrians with disabilities.

The learning objectives are:

• Understand the definitions of terms used and the components that make up a circulation path.
• Understand the requirements for a circulation path in locations with vehicle traffic.
• Understand exceptions provided for existing facilities.
• Know the correct use of detectable warnings in circulation paths.

One (1) continuing education credit is offered for a maximum of one-hour live attendance for DSA CASp certification or CAB credits, to be self-reported.

Michelle has been with the Division of the State Architect, Architectural Codes and Policies Team, Accessibility Unit for a year and in the construction industry for over 30 years, specializing almost exclusively in access compliance in California for the past 15 years.  She has served as a Subject Matter Expert in access related litigation, facilities assessments of all kinds, and CASp exam development.  She is a founding member of the Certified Access Specialist Institute and an ICC certified access plans examiner.
