CASI Discussion Group
The purpose of the Bimonthly Discussion Group is to connect CASI members to discuss various aspects of the California Building Code (CBC) as well as state and federal accessibility standards.
Topic: “Scoping for Housing” Session 1
Date: Friday, February 14, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM PST
Cost: FREE to CASI Members
Live Webinar via Zoom
CEU Credit: One (1) continuing education credit is offered for a maximum of one-hour live attendance for DSA CASp certification or CAB credits, to be self-reported.
Have your completed worksheets and be prepared to discuss your answers with the group. Fifteen minutes will be set aside for any additional questions during the session.
This session will build upon the concepts discussed in the December : “Scoping for Housing” Session 1. Please review the Part 1 recording when available and be prepared to discuss your worksheets for each scenario.
This discussion session is NOT a lecture, so come prepared with your code book and be ready to apply the code provisions to real-world examples.
You will be divided into random breakout groups. Each breakout group will have 25 minutes to discuss a scenario guided by a CASI facilitator. Then, we will reconvene, and a representative from each breakout group will have up to 5 minutes to present the scenario, any discussions/debates, and the group interpretation of the applicable codes.
Scenarios addressing the following aspects of code will be discussed:
- Identify the various scoping regulations and codes applicable to accessible housing.
- Correlate regulations' applicability based on funding sources and housing programs.
- Analyze regulations' applicability based on new construction and alterations.
- Evaluate the implications when more than one guideline or regulation applies to a project.
One (1) continuing education credit is offered for a maximum of one hour of live attendance for DSA CASp certification renewal and the California Architects Board License Renewal for Disability Access Requirements. These credits are self-reported.
The Discussion Groups are available FREE to CASI members only. Registration is required.
Webinar information to join the discussion group will be sent out the day prior to the scheduled session date. The discussion groups will be recorded and archived in the member dashboard for those who cannot attend the live session.
