CASI Discussion Group
The purpose of the Bimonthly Discussion Group is to connect CASI members to discuss various aspects of the California Building Code and federal accessibility standards.
Topic: CBC Intervening Code Supplement Scenario Discussions
Date: Wednesday, May 26, 2021
Time: 1pm - 2pm PT
COST: FREE to CASI Members
WEBINAR: via ZOOM
For the upcoming CASI discussion group, we'll be doing just that - discussing the code! This will NOT be a lecture so come prepared with your code book and the Intervening Code Supplement, your thinking cap, and a willingness to engage.
You will be divided into a breakout group by federal districts. Each breakout group will have 25 minutes to discuss a scenario, guided by a CASI facilitator. Then, we will reconvene as a whole and a representative from each breakout group will have up to 5 minutes to present the scenario, any discussions/debates, and the group interpretation.
Scenarios addressing the following aspects of the intervening code cycle amendments will be discussed:
- Removal of 'Hazardous Vehicular Area' and replacement with "Blended Transitions" in 11B-247.1.2.5
- Definition of Circulation Path and New Scoping for Circulation Paths in 11B-250.1
- Revised design requirements for curb ramps and warning surfaces in 11B-705.1.2.2
Note: we are intentionally not discussing the housing-related changes at this point, and anticipate a future discussion group to focus on that topic.
REQUEST: If you have images or plan sets that speak to these elements that you're willing to share for discussion, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 14.
One (1) continuing education credit is offered for a maximum of one-hour live attendance for DSA CASp certification or CAB credits, to be self-reported.
The Discussion Groups are available FREE to CASI members only. Registration is required.
Webinar information to join the discussion group will be sent out the day prior to the scheduled session date.
The discussion groups will be recorded and archived in the member dashboard for those who cannot attend the live session.
