What is A Report by A CASp and Why Should it Matter

Our Panel of experts will be discussing the current state of affairs regarding the preparation of CASp reports and reports prepared by a CASp, which will include a discussion on the legal implications of each approach. The panel will also discuss how to ensure that the structure, detail, and layout of a report best suits your clients’ needs and the pitfalls that are often seen within the industry.

Janis Kent, FAIA CASp, is a licensed California Architect, a Certified Access Specialist, and has been involved with Accessibility in the built environment since the 1980’s. The Division of the State Architect has designated her a Subject Matter Expert. She is the Founding President of the Certified Access Specialist Institute. Her most recent book published by Wiley in 2017 "ADA in Details – Interpreting the ADAS for Accessible Design" is used by numerous building professionals.

Rachelle Taylor Golden is an attorney who works on access litigation. She has used a manual wheelchair since 1999 and is passionate about ensuring accessibility compliance. Her legal philosophy rests upon working collaboratively with companies and public entities alike to develop proactive compliance strategies to ensure that they can effectively defend against lawsuits. She also defends public and private entities against construction-related access and website compliance lawsuits.

Terry McLean, CASp, is a licensed California Architect and CASp. Working many years as a corporate interiors architect, she has had the opportunity to provide a significant number of Path of Travel upgrades for tenant improvement projects. Since starting her firm in 2013, TJ McLean Associates, Inc., she has prepared many types of accessibility reports; as well as; CASp reports for a variety of building types and clients. She also provides plan review and accessibility consulting. As the previous Legislative Chair for CASI, she continues to track legislation as it relates to CASps. She was also previously designated as a Subject Matter Expert by the Division of the State Architect.
