The Justice Department reached a settlement agreement today with the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA - Rocky Run Branch, a Philadelphia Area YMCA affiliate, to resolve allegations that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by denying a child an equal opportunity to participate in an after-school program and a summer day camp program because of her type 1 diabetes.  The YMCA refused to provide various diabetes-related tasks, including administering glucagon or supervise the child to self-administer insulin, limited the hours she could participate in after-care, and required her family to provide an aide for the summer camp program, in violation of title III of the ADA.

For more information or for a copy of the settlement agreement, please visit our ADA website at www.ada.gov. Those interested in finding out more about the ADA may also call the Justice Department's toll-free ADA Information Line at 1-800-514-0301 or 1-800-514-0383 (TDD).
