On June 20, 2016, the U. S. Department of Justice issued a letter finding that Nevada's policies and practices for housing and employing inmates with disabilities violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. The letter finds that Nevada: (1) segregates inmates with HIV; (2) denies inmates with HIV equal employment opportunities; and (3) denies inmates with various disabilities, including those with mobility disabilities, HIV, or certain other medical or mental health conditions, equal opportunities to benefit from the programs offered at two of the Nevada Department of Corrections' lowest-custody facilities - its conservation camps and transitional-housing facilities.
