Today, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the Caroline County, Virginia Commissioner of the Revenue alleging disability discrimination in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The lawsuit alleges that the Commissioner of the Revenue failed to provide a long-time employee with a disability with reasonable accommodations she needed to perform her job, then fired her based on her disability. The employee has a respiratory impairment that causes shortness of breath and hoarseness.
